June 28 2016 – Flowers on (a rainy) Tuesday

This week’s flowers require a special explanation.  I ran the Baltimore Women’s 5k this past weekend, for the fourth year in a row.  I love this race for many reasons, not the least of which being that at the finish line there are handsome men handing out ice cold towels and roses.  I freely admit to scoping out the guy with the prettiest, perky-ist roses.  That little rose in the middle was my handsome man handout!  For reference, it’s regular flower-shop rose-sized, i.e. top-to-bottom, it’s about the size of your palm.  I felt pretty spiffy carrying it around downtown all morning.  Enter the other three – my Tuesday surprise from My Guy. “To keep your other one company”, he said.  See how they match?  Ridiculously and fortuitously cute, no?  For more reference, they are about the size of my outstretched hand.  Or appetizer plates.  (Really, I think My Guy was trying to say something there, don’t you?)  They’re amazing!

My favorite find at my new job, so far.

I’m navigating the transition between jobs, at the moment, and I’ve been working longer hours all around to make things neat.  Part of the challenge of my new workplace is to wrangle the backlog of business records into some state of organization.  Think shoeboxes of receipts at tax time and the dusty scroll room at Hogwarts, and you’ve pretty much got it.  It made finding this particular gem at the bottom of a desk drawer I was cleaning out all the more spectacular.  It’s labeled.

Meanwhile, look at these amazing flowers my generous co-worker put together, for my last day at work!  Aren’t they stunning?  All of these blooms were gathered from the flower beds around the farm; great landscaping is one of the many perks of working in the horticulture industry.

“I just threw them together”, my co-worker said.  She has a calling when she retires– if she ever retires!– don’t you think?  I’m sure going to miss this beautiful place, and I’m so excited for new things!
